Hamstra Flooring joined with Carpet One in the mid-90s to become part of North America’s largest flooring co-op. We have benefited as a local business from being a part of this large group. Now using the name Hamstra Carpet One Floor & Home, we are located in Strathroy, Ontario, and offer a very large assortment of carpet, vinyl, tile, wood, laminate, and other flooring products and services at prices comparable to big box stores. We have also collaborated with Benjamin Moore paints and Shade-o-Matic blinds to round out our offering of high-quality, great-value, home decorating products. Our History

In 1957, Peter Hamstra began his own business in Strathroy selling clothing and other imported goods to immigrant families. This business started in the living room of his home and the back of his truck and grew to his first location on Front Street in Strathroy. From there, his sons Wick, Jake, and son-in-law, John, moved with him into the current location on Caradoc Street in 1975 and continued to grow the business in floor and window coverings. Many years of creating relationships and earning the trust of their customers have built a solid business that is now carried on by Wick’s son Richard, who became a partner alongside his father in 2001 and a dedicated staff. Wick has since retired, but many of the staff he hired years ago are still the backbone of the company, and Richard is now joined at work by his wife Jana, and son, Ben. Now that’s what we call a family business!

Did You Know…

When Opa, meaning grandfather, Peter Hamstra opened his first location on Frank St, the location was small and to help accommodate for this the rolls of carpet were lifted by an outdoor pulley system up to the second floor of the building – talk about innovation! Hamstra then moved to their second, and current location. When this building was built, there was nothing on the block except for a car dealership, but it’s a busy neighbourhood now! With the changing times, it’s great to know you can always count on Hamstra Carpet One for the best floor and home
